With offseason testing and the Road to Indy Spring Training now complete, Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports is set to make their Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires series debut this weekend at the famed Barber Motorsports Park. Descending on the Leeds, Alabama located facility, Benjamin Pedersen and Linus Lundqvist will pilot the #24 and #26 entries at the sprawling 2.38-mile facility.
“It was a really positive test at Barber for the whole team,” explained Linus Lundqvist, the 2020 FR Americas Champion and the driver who clocked the second quickest time of the Spring Training Test. “Sure, it was just testing, but all the signs are promising and it’s always nice to see your name at the top of the board. I genuinely feel we have a strong package, both on the longer runs and in qualifying trim. I’m still quite new to the car and still have a bit of learning to do, but I can’t wait to go racing!”
“The recent Indy Lights open test at Barber Motorsports Park felt very strong, finishing in the top-three overall times,” added Pedersen. “We tried a lot of things with the car as a final checklist before the race weekend, and we continued to learn every session making improvements. I’m feeling confident for the start of the season beginning this week!”
Joining forces with HMD Motorsports, the powerhouse program swept the top three positions led by HMD’s David Malukas with Lundqvist and Pedersen clocking the second and third quickest laps of the final test. With points and trophies on the line starting this weekend, these three drivers along with HMD Motorsports’ Nikita Lastochkin will be looking to carry that momentum into their race weekend program.
It will be a busy weekend in Alabama as the complete Road to Indy as well as the NTT IndyCar Series will see action at Barber Motorsports Park. With Indy Lights on track action beginning Thursday afternoon for the one and only practice, Friday will be the home of a pair of qualifying sessions that will set the grid for Saturday’s first round of wheel-to-wheel action and Sunday’s round two.
Live coverage of practice and qualifying, produced by Road to Indy TV, will be available throughout the weekend. They will also be live streamed on the Road to Indy TV App, on RoadToIndy.TV and its social media platforms and on IndyLights.com. Coverage of the races will be available live through Peacock Premium inside the United States, REV TV in Canada and through Road to Indy TV in all other countries.
