Four months since the close of the 2021 season, Global Racing Group (GRG) is gearing up for the opening round of the 2022 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship this weekend on the streets of downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. GRG will return to the series with Benjamin Pedersen in the #24 Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports entry as he sets his sights on the championship and advancement to the NTT INDYCAR Series.

Returning to the series in partnership with the 2021 Team Championship program, Pedersen is in a strong position to battle for wins and consistent finishes in 2022. This season, Pedersen will be racing alongside four other HMD Motorsports teammates as the outfit continues to evolve and become one of the powerhouse programs in Indy Lights competition.

After finding his stride in the latter half of the season in 2021, Pedersen finished in the top-five in seven of the final eight races to finish fourth in the championship. Continuing to improve his performance, he entered a thorough winter testing program that saw him as one of the drivers to beat. After topping the charts at the annual Chris Griffis Memorial Test at the start of the off-season, Pedersen continued to lead the field throughout the majority of tests at Barber Motorsports Park, Sebring International Raceway, Homestead-Miami Speedway and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

The opening of the 2022 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship officially begins this weekend, with on track activity beginning Friday, February 25. The Indy Lights field will take to the track three times throughout the day on Friday with one morning practice followed by a thirty-minute qualifying session and an early evening final practice. Due to a packed event weekend in St. Petersburg, the drivers will have a rest day on Saturday, with no on-track sessions. The first race of the weekend will begin on Sunday morning with the green flag dropping at 9:30am prior to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Coverage of practice and qualifying will be available throughout the weekend through the INDYCAR App and live coverage of the race will be available through Peacock Premium in the United States, REV TV in Canada and through INDYCAR.com everywhere else. Stay tuned to the Global Racing Group social pages for update. For series updates throughout the weekend, be sure to follow INDYCAR on Instagram and Indy Lights on Facebook and Twitter.
