Currently sitting second in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship, Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports driver Benjamin Pedersen is eager to resume the season this weekend, April 29-May 1, at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama. The sight of his first career Indy Lights podium in 2021, Pedersen is returning to the facility in the hopes of adding to his results resume and topping the blocks come Sunday.
In the nine weeks since the first round of the season, Pedersen has been hard at work preparing for the next event in the top tier of the Road to Indy ladder championship. After participating in two tests at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Barber Motorsports Park in the past month, Pedersen, along with the entire Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports operation, is ready to take on the 15-turn, 2.3-mile road course.
Barber Motorsports Park was visited this past season and was host to the season opening rounds of the 2021 Indy Lights season. Benjamin Pedersen, in his rookie season and first race, qualified in fourth and ultimately drove his way to second to claim his first podium finish. Pedersen continued on to earn six podium results in his rookie season and with a year of experience under his belt, is still going after his first win and is hoping to do so this weekend.
“Barber is special to me,” explained Pedersen. “It was the site of my first career Indy Lights podium last season in what was a dominant weekend for the team. I feel with a year now under my belt, I can challenge for the top step of the podium this time around.”
This weekend, Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires will lead the NTT INDYCAR SERIES throughout the event with one practice session on Friday and a final practice session Saturday morning before qualifying. Round 2 of the championship will take place Sunday morning as a preview to the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.
